In 1987, in memory of Amy Foose, the Foose Family donated the Helmet Car to Dos Pueblos High School. Amy Foose was born with Progeria a disease of rapid aging and died at the age of 16 of a heart attack. She was only 37 inches tall and weighed only 26 pounds. The Helmet Car is known to some as “Amy’s car” or just as “Amy” and it was built by Amy’s dad Sam Foose and brother Chip. Sam Foose is a legendary Hot Rod designer and builder who once ran a local body shop here in Goleta called Project Design. His son Chip has become a legend in his own right, in the world of Hot Roding and Custom Cars. Chip is the star designer of the TV show “Overhaulin” now in reruns on cable TV or YouTube. Amy was popular and well liked, she was also involved in a long list of activities while attending Dos Pueblos. If you would like to know more about Progeria and Amy go to the Progeria Research Foundations web site at www.progeriaresearch.org and read Remembering Amy. Both Amy and Chip Foose were inducted into the inaugural DPHS Hall of Fame in 2016.
